PREREQUISITES

• Age: 18 Years Old
• Dives: 25 Dives Deeper Than 30 Meters
• Certification: Advanced Nitrox and Deco Procedures

WHAT CAN I DO WITH THIS CERTIFICATION?

The TDI Extended Range Course certifies divers to independently plan and execute stage decompression dives to a maximum depth of 55 meters/ 180 feet. Divers may use up to two different stage bottles containing enriched air and/or oxygen as decompression gasses. This program may be combined with TDI Trimix Diver Certification.

Diving past the recreational depth limits is addicting: the corals and wrecks are more pristine, the marine life is different, even the feeling of being deep and the color of the water are invigorating. If every experience in this harsh yet inviting environment leaves you thirsting for more, if the darkness and the faint glint of creatures diving beneath you only piques your curiosity, it’s time to go deeper. The TDI Extended Range Course follows Decompression Procedures in the TDI Tec Diver Training Program, enabling divers to reach greater depths or have longer bottom times with shorter decompression by using two decompression gas blends. It can be taken as a stand-alone course or in conjunction with trimix certification.

WHERE WILL I DIVE DURING THE COURSE?

The theory portion of the course is taught in the classroom at Under the Jungle. Confined water skill practice is conducted in the open water of shallow cenotes, and then we’ll run some scenarios in deep cenotes such as The Pit and Angelita. We finish up the course on ocean drift dives, flying over deep coral walls and drop-offs – so you’ll get to see a little of everything the Riviera Maya has to offer.

WHAT WILL I LEARN DURING THE EXTENDED RANGE COURSE?

The TDI Extended Range Course combines dive theory, confined water skills practice, open water dives, and practice scenarios.

⇒ EXTENDED RANGE COURSE THEORY

• How to select and use two deco gasses to increase diver safety
• Review of the basics of decompression theory
• Explanation of common decompression models and the differences between them
• Review of the benefits of using enriched air or oxygen as a decompression gas
• Dive planning and logistics for a variety of environments
• Anticipating and managing common problems in decompression diving
• Review of different equipment configurations using multiple stage bottles

⇒ OPEN WATER DIVE SKILLS AND SCENARIOS

• Recalculation of decompression requirements due to lost deco gas
• Gas switching using team protocols
• Lift bag deployment
• Using a safety lift bag for surface assistance
• Dealing with a convulsing diver at depth
• Refinement of configurations
• Narcosis test at depth
• Emergency scenarios simulations including, but not limited to: exceeded bottom times, gas sharing during a no-mask ascent,free-flowing regulators, loss of deco gas, and switching to a back-up wing or buoyancy device
