A little over a month ago, Rory O'Keefe and continued a tiny exploration project in one of my area in the Riviera Maya. This is the entrance chamber. It's a massive space filled with silt dunes and columns. I hope to get back there as soon as high season slows down a bit!

Flying through flooded caves on a DPV (diver propulsion video) is one of my favorite things to do in the world. Here, Sev Regehr and I zipped into a cave to photograph one of the prettiest lines I know.

My buddy and business partner Vincent Rouquette-Cathala scooters through the hyper-decorated tunnels along the E-tunnel in Cenote Otoch Ha. The Kiss Sidewinder and our "Super Scoots" combination is perfect for long cave dives in Mexico's extensive cave systems. Few things in life are as much fun as this.

In Cenote Nohoch Nah Chich, Parker's Line has long been one of my favorite cave lines to photograph. I shot these images with our student Andy Preas only a short distance from the entrance. While not planned, the perfect reflection of Andy in the gas pocket on the ceiling made the first shot one of my favorite images 🙂

Everyone's favorite intern, Ramon, is back for a second year during our winter season. He's been busy assisting courses, helping us out, and being a delightful presence around the shop. Last year, right before he left, we headed to Nohoch Nah Chich and shot some of my favorite scenes along the downstream line. Dos Palmas is a beautiful cenote and one of the multitudes of entrances into the Dos Ojos section of Sistema Sac Aktun. I shot this photo with Ror O'Keefe from @survey.down as he finished up his map of the cave. The map is impressive, and Rory is now teaching underwater survey and cartography courses.

When @diveshearwater premiered the Petrel 3 and P

When @diveshearwater premiered the Petrel 3 and Perdix 2, Stephanie Lee (@rubberduckydiver) and I had the honor of shooting photos of the computers, highlighting their use in the Mexican cenotes. You can see the bright screens of the computers even in the more distant shots, and I still use both of these computers in my daily diving today. This was a super fun shoot!

Just below the surface at Cenote Taak Bi Ha, cave diver Arielle Ginsberg showed off her expert modeling skills in this cavern photo shoot. This cenote is the most popular site to begin the long DPV ride to the Pit and it is also an incredible cavern dive in its own right.

Moving from a baby cave diver through Stage Cave and DPV with Under the Jungle, Alex is now a top-level, well-known sidemount instructor in the Bay Area at @bambooreef . The process of building the Maya Train: Just over

The process of building the Maya Train: Just over a year ago, Vince and I spent a morning photographing the drill holes and construction debris in our exploration site, Cenote Ah Kax Ha. The train construction has gone very fast. These holes are now filled with massive pylons, and the train bridge above the cave is complete. The train is running, and so far, besides the initial sediment from the drilling and the construction barrier that got knocked in, there hasn't been any visible effect on the cave below. We have even been in the cave when the train passes over us. I'm less than thrilled about the train pylons, but it makes for an interesting dive.

Venturing into massive underground spaces with our cave and cavern diving guide, Wendy. Some caves have smaller tunnels requiring divers to wiggle and squeeze through the passageways, and these are really fun! However, I also love diving through vast spaces. They make me feel humbled and tiny in comparison.

One of my favorite cave tunnels is diveable from Cenote Sushi/Xuxi in the Riviera Maya, Mexico. Here, our guide and cave instructor, Thibault Blanc, hovers expertly among delicate formations and twisting tunnels. I love this place.

Cave diver Daniel Saska was kind enough to model for me a few weeks ago at Cenote Chan Hol. Most of the cave is filled with beautiful white speleothems, but some side passageways are decorated with golden/brown formations. The variety of tunnels and decorations within a single cave system is one of the reasons that cave diving in Mexico is so much fun.

Wendy Spidlova, our delightful cave and cavern guide, swims through shimmering light beams and vast tunnels at one of my most nostalgic cenotes. I have been diving this cenote since 2009, and one of my first exploration sites was owned by the same landowner. It brings me great joy to share it with my shop's guides and divers.

Thibault Blanc, one of the cave instructors at our shop, navigates a beautiful tunnel in the Nai Tucha/Koox Baal cave system. The cave is diveable only by certified cave divers, and it's one of my favorite places to visit near Tulum, Mexico. It's extremely decorated and has a variety of fantastic dives to enjoy.

Cavern diving sounds like it should be dark and sp

Cavern diving sounds like it should be dark and spooky. It's not! One of the rules for safe cavern/cenote diving is to always stay within view of natural daylight. Sometimes, the daylight is dim, but the light beams often illuminate the entire cavern zone. On dives like this, I feel in awe of the beauty of our planet.

Chan Hol has become a classic cave dive near Tulum, Mexico. Divers park in the owner's immaculate garden and descend to find equally beautiful cave passages. Daniel Saska and I headed out to this gorgeous cenote last Sunday for a photo shoot to celebrate his successful completion of Full Cave with me.

Daniel Saska and I had a wonderful photo shoot at

Daniel Saska and I had a wonderful photo shoot at Chan Hol, celebrating his full cave certification. He was a fantastic first-time model, and we got many good images. My favorite from this shoot was unexpected. I had no great enthusiasm for shooting the pottery and bone collection of the ledge near the entrance; it's been photographed a million times and wasn't interesting to me until I pulled out the lights and realized what I could do with it. These artifacts were placed on the ledge to avoid damage from divers coming through the restricted entrance slope from the cenote.

One of my favorite tunnels near Cenote Nai Tucha has always been a bit of a swim. I finally had the chance to check out Cenote Xuxi/Sushi with our guide, @thiburon_bianco, over the holiday break, which allows access much closer to this tunnel. What a wonderful place for a photo shoot to officially welcome Thibault to our UTJ team as a full cave instructor. His bio is live on the website and linked in our IG stories.
Thibault, we are so happy to have you working with us at our happy little shop.
