Cenote Ponderosa is known for its beautiful light effects, but there’s more to the cavern dive than just light beams. Under the halocline layer, the water looks blue and the floor looks silver due to the refractive properties of salt water. It’s fun to drift between the fresh and salt water, and to observe the difference between the two. Ponderosa is one of our favorite dives for a client’s first day of cavern diving, as it is big, open, and brilliantly lit. It’s also a fantastic training site.
