Cenote Carwash (also known as Aktun Ha) was one of the first cenotes opened to divers Carwash was so named because taxi drivers used to park there and wash their cars. During the summer months, Cenote Carwash is home to an algae bloom. Microscopic algae grow in the first meter or so of surface water. Divers have almost no visibility as they descend through the algae, but just underneath the surface is crystal clear water. The algae makes it look as if you are diving on another planet, under a foreign atmosphere.
