WHAT CAN I DO WITH THIS CERTIFICATION?
The TDI Normoxic Trimix Course certifies divers to independently plan and execute stage decompression dives to a maximum depth of 60 meters/ 200 feet. Divers are qualified to use trimix blends with no less than 18% oxygen. This course can be taken as a stand-alone course, or may be taught in conjunction with the prerequisite TDI Extended Range Course or the subsequent Advanced Trimix Course.
While it’s certainly possible to go deeper that 50 meters on air, it’s a very bad idea. The psychological and physiological issues arising from very deep air dives make deep diving on air an unacceptably risky proposition. Safely going deeper is possible, however, using trimix blends which reduce the problems associated with both nitrox and oxygen on deep dives while improving the ease of breathing. If your dive objectives take you deep, the TDI Normoxic Trimix Course will give you the tools and tricks to expand your depth limits while drifting over coral drop offs in warm, clear water. And, if you’re already a proficient cave diver, a certification dive at The Pit will take you to a completely unique environment few divers ever visit.
WHERE WILL I DIVE DURING THE COURSE?
The theory portion of the course is conducted in the classroom at Under the Jungle. Confined water skill practice is conducted in the open water of the cenotes. Check out dives and skill scenarios are run in the warm Caribbean waters, where you will feel the joy of a 200 foot vertical free fall down coral drop offs. If for any reason the ocean is blown out, we have the option to conduct check out dives in one of the many deep lagoons nearby. If you are already a certified cave diver, let us know, you have some very interesting options in the area.
WHAT WILL I LEARN IN THE NORMOXIC TRIMIX COURSE?
The TDI Normoxic Trimix Course includes dive theory, confined water skill practice, and four stage decompression dives during which divers practice skills and emergency scenario simulations.
⇒ NORMOXIC TRIMIX THEORY
• Explanation of physics of breathing helium
• Review of the physiology of breathing helium
• In-depth review of decompression strategies
• Equipment considerations and workshop
• Review of dive tables
• Dive planning using decompression software
⇒ IN-WATER SKILLS AND SCENARIO PRACTICE
• Management of two stage cylinders, including drop and recovery while maintaining position in the water column
• Gas switching at depth using team diving procedures
• Lift bag deployment at depth and use of the bag as a back-up buoyancy device
• No-mask air sharing from depth
• Create a contingency decompression schedule after simulated loss of a decompression gas
• Control a toxing diver during ascent, surface towing and equipment removal
